The Vimy Myth

The heroism and valour of all Canadian soldiers at the Battle of Vimy ridge is unquestionable, regardless battles are bloody affairs all with ramifications on the citizenry. Contrary to its modern portrayal the Battle of Vimy ridge wasn’t central to the recognition of Canada on the world stage or during the war. By paving the way to conscription, Vimy divided the French and English Canada like no other event. Finally the Battle of Vimy ridge left unconscionable scars on many communities especially that of Montreal. In light of this, the battle did more harm to Quebecers and Canada as whole than good.
