April 9th 1917, the beginning of the battle of Vimy Ridge in France. At this time a lot was happening on the Canadian homefront and Toronto, a large and significant city today, experienced growth and conflict. The history of the battle not only interests some but it also shaped the city and the country we know today. In large cities like Toronto, conflict occurred around the idea of conscription and the loss of many men. This also caused division throughout the nation.
