Vimy Ridge: «Le Canada est Né Ici»

The Battle at Vimy Ridge was known as one of the bloodiest battles of World War I, but it was also known as the battle where Canada showed what it was capable of. The Canadian community was, and continues to be, affected by this battle in many positive ways, although there were negative aspects. Many soldiers were harmed, causing devastation among the soldiers and their families, still provoking sorrowful feelings today (Cook, n.d.). Despite this, Canada was affected positively from this victory because the people were given a reason to be proud of their country and they were first recognized on the global stage as an independent country which is what they are still seen as today.
