Justice; A New National Historic Site

The Daily, Friday, December 15, 2017

Canada is known today for its diverse and unified population; however, this was certainly not always the case. This issue of the mistreatment of Canada's Indigenous peoples has been recently brought to the attention of the public and federal government. A high school student is now proposing a new national historic site to help remember the victims of residential schools. Eastyn Klages states that the location of the former Gordon Residential School, must become one of Canada’s national historic sites. Gordon Indian Residential School, was the last of its kind to be closed in Canada in 1996. Klages declares that this place of former cruelty needs to be recognized as a national historic site due to its horrific history, the closure it would bring to survivors and the light it would shed upon Canada’s future. The proposal states that a historic site does not always have to recognize accomplishments in Canada’s history, and that Gordon Indian Residential School is a prime example of that.

I chose this question because if my answer were to become a reality, I feel like it would mean something to more people than just me.
