New Historic Site in Canada

Throughout Canada’s history many accomplishments and monumental achievements have been celebrated, but rarely will we stop to recognize the negative parts of our history. We have monuments to celebrate and remember the feats of many Canadian heroes, but we don’t have a single historic site commemorating the dark era of Residential Schools in Canada. That is why I propose to make the Mohawk Institute Residential School in Brantford, Ontario become a historic site to acknowledge Residential Schools and the affects they had and have on Canada’s past and present. Preserving a Residential School is a way to honour the survivors and keep the memory of these schools alive to make sure this dark chapter in history will never be forgotten.
