Project: Truth and Reconciliation

My project is on Truth and Reconciliation. I look at what reconciliation is, why we need to reconcile and how it is happening in our country.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

When I met with Elder Crowshoe I learned how First Nation people lost their sense of belonging and culture in our community.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I have learned about some of the lasting effects and consequences of how we treated Indigenous people in the past.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I am very fortunate to be living in a country where we try to see people as equal and be inclusive. I get to come home every night and be with my family after school and I am free to practice my culture and faith.

What an incredible example for adults and children to follow! If only more people would approach cultural, racial, ethnic, and religious differences with the maturity, compassion, and respect that this young lady displays. If only our previous generations in Canada had displayed more of these values...

Well done Nycea! I am happy to see the outreach of communities desire communication and outreach that will help our people overcome the tardily of our past history. To grow in the human race is to accept wrongs and correct them, and make our world better with compassion and understanding! My Native heritage was also taken from me, but now I have the opportunity to reclaim it and help both sides come together and build a strong country because of it. Thank you for presenting this step forward video! We are all one! Macooa! Mitákuye Oyás'iŋ. (A piece of my heart, we are all related!)Tangski.

Wonderful job Nycea! I continue to learn about the atrocities of indigenous people within Canada and it is definitely eye opening to hear stories from indigenous people who have been effected due to previous practices.
