Project: Women at Work during the World Wars

This project looks at what the Canadian women did during the World Wars and how it had an impact on Canada.  It talks about what the women did in the military and how they helped at home.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing that I learned was that women had a role in the military. Through these roles women were able to serve our country in a way that would not be expected prior to this time. I had no idea about this and was very surprised.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

An important lesson that I want to share is that during the World Wars, Canadian women were very brave and strong. They proved that given the opportunity, women were able to do the hard work and do it well. Also, I would want Canadians to know that women had a very big impact on the Canada we live in today.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

My life today compared to a women's life then would be very different. For example, women weren't allowed to enlist in the military, unlike today. These women cleared a path and opened many opportunities for me as a Canadian female today.
