How the Women of the Past Have Shaped Me

I am lucky to say there are many events in Canadian history that have allowed me to become the women that I am today. These turning points have given me, and other groups that have been discriminated against in the past, more rights that people were oblivious to 100 years ago. The first moment in Canadian history that has influenced my identity is the moment when Canadian women won the right to vote which has given me the ability to have a voice in Canadian politics without the fear of repercussion. The second moment is the Persons case which was the movement of the Famous Five who were determined to make women be considered “persons”. These moments laid a foundation for equality for women in society.
