Expo 67; Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Expo 67 reached far beyond its year in technology, the fine arts, architecture and so much more. It created a vision of a futuristic utopia that people could only dream would become a reality in years to come. In 1967, Canada celebrated its centennial anniversary by hosting one of the largest World Expositions in Montreal. The theme was Man and His World, and the Expo focused on creating an ideal futuristic world which we might one day achieve. Expo 67’s focus was on creating an ideal world but in the process overlooked issues in our society that are still present today. The pavillion of the Indians of Canada covered up the mistreatment of Indigenous people with empty promises, something we have yet to change in our society today. Another pavilion was the Christian Pavilion which ignored the prevalence of other minority religions in Canada and minority groups struggle for a voice today.

I chose to write my research essay on Expo 67 because it was a defining moment in Canada's history.
