Making Reconciliation Real

The land of the Mississauga people was commandeered and reduced to almost nothing and the treatment they faced by the Canadian government was unacceptable. In order to make reconciliation real in my local area, Toronto, we must become educated, exposed to the Mississauga people and their culture. The contributions that the Mississaugas made to agro-ecology should be recognised and made a part of our education and awareness systems. Lastly, the indigenous people’s living conditions are unacceptable and to help alleviate this in the true spirit of reconciliation we can make housing outside of reserves more accessible. By implementing these changes in Toronto, it can strengthen the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

I chose this question because I believe the atrocities committed against the First Nations of Canada must be addressed through real action.
