Wounds Leave Scars

[Setting] high expectations for Canada, Wilfrid Laurier said, “the nineteenth century was the century of the United States. I think we can claim that it is Canada that shall fill the twentieth century.” It can be assumed that Laurier meant that Canada would thrive during this century economically, culturally and socially. However, one may disagree with this statement because [of] a prominent recurring issue throughout the most of the century… the Canadian government… played a role in trying to maintain the image of a more westernized society. This is demonstrated through the absence of equality [between] gender roles and many ethnic groups in Canada.
