The Pathway to Canada's Identity

Canada is recognized as nation of freedom, diversity, and accomplishment and, focusing on these traits, Prime Minister Wilfrid Laurier asserted that Canada would fill the 20th century. The century saw the evolution of women’s rights, the development of fair immigration policies, and several innovations. Filling the century means that, while several successful milestones have been reached, there were mistakes from which Canada learned and moved forward.
