Discrimination and Inequality

Confederation was a turning point for Canada, which made it into a country where its citizens can proudly call themselves Canadians, and many of whom are portrayed with diverse ethnicities and cultures. I am a Canadian citizen who identifies as a woman and a Chinese. Two moments in Canadian history that have shown significant progress in women’s rights and shaped my identity as a Chinese-Canadian are when Cairine Wilson became Canada’s first female senator (1930) and when Chinese-Canadians were given the right to vote (1947).
