Unjust Limiting of Aboriginal and Treaty Rights

To say that the Aboriginal Peoples of Canada and the Royal Crown have had a rather tumultuous relationship over the past few centuries would be a gross understatement… Aboriginal [peoples] have been subjected to mass discrimination and prejudice of all sorts and have had to endure injustices of inhumane proportions. They have been exiled from their own land, reprimanded for uncontrollable factors such as their heritage, forcibly assimilated and remolded to be more uniform in society, among many other such exploitations. There have been several controversial court cases that have taken place since the recognition of Aboriginal and treaty rights in Section 35 of the Constitution Act in 1982, which have severely limited the rights of the Aboriginal Peoples.
