William Alexander Munns joined the Royal Flying Corps, because he saw himself in one of those wonderful flying machines. Much training came first.

After their ground training in Toronto, those pictured went up to Camp Borden for primary training and then on to Texas where they soloed in JN-4s (Jennys). Soon after Munns got his wings, he cracked up in a Jenny, whose engine shifted back and crushed his foot and ripped some skin from his back. His foot was put back together and skin from his leg was used to patch his back. He never flew in anything again.
