Flight Sub-Lieutenant Robert Alexander Campbell of Uxbridge, Ontario was flying a Sopwith Camel to his home base and the engine fell out, forcing him to jump out. Unfortunately, his parachute didn’t open and he spent the next year recuperating in a military hospital in England.

After the war, Campbell met and married Louisa and they farmed and bred horses in Quebec. He created and managed Great Lakes shipping companies. He then got involved with grain trade in Quebec. A dynamic businessman, he also owned a fleet of ships and was known as a leading businessman in Canada when he died in September 1976.
