A dentistry student at McGill University, Jenks enlisted on February 18, 1915, at the age of 25. In France, he served with the Royal Flying Corps, #20 Squadron. Following the war, he set up a dental practice in Montreal. He also married Elizabeth McKim; the couple had one child, Anson, who died at the age of 2. Jenks took his own life in Montreal on July 29, 1938.
