Bronwyn Richmond, British Columbia

Fair address: Richmond Regional Heritage Fair

Project: Arthur Laing: The Man Behind the Arthur Laing Bridge

My project is about the person who a local bridge was named for. I talked about his personal and political accomplishments.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

Probably the most interesting thing I learned was that Arthur Laing established Yellowknife as the capital city of the NWT. He did it not just because it was his job, but because he really saw a problem and he wanted to fix it.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Things are named for people but over time, we forget who those people were. We really should know more about these people. When you look back, you find out more than you thought was there.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I was looking at the accomplishments of a politician not the daily life, so it's hard to answer that. It was about 50 years ago so life was different, but that wasn't the focus of my study.
