ABOUT

From April 15-May 8, 2020, we will showcase the Heritage Fair projects from participating students across the country. Students will choose 3 images to represent their project and provide key points about their topic. We invite you to follow us on Instagram at @heritagefairs_fetespatrimoine to meet participants from across the country, learn about their Heritage Fair projects and comment on their amazing work.

GETTING STARTED

Share your Heritage Fair project with Canadians across the country from the comfort of your home! We would like to highlight your hard work and research in a Virtual Heritage Fair on Instagram.

From April 15-May 8, 2020, each Virtual Heritage Fair participant will get a post on our grid about their project. Your goal is to engage the audience using photos and a caption that highlights the most important talking points about your topic.

Check out the other projects, leave a comment, and ask questions.

Daily prizes are available for participants and will be distributed through a random draw.

Step 1: Permission form

Please have your parent or guardian sign the Student Permission Form. You must return this form to us when you submit your project.

Step 2: Choose your photographs and write your captions

Pick 3 photos that best exemplify your project. These could be photos of your project display board, archival images and photographs, original artwork, and more. Including images of yourself is optional.

Submit your photos through the online form below, and provide a caption for each image - like a mini PowerPoint presentation. The captions should share the key ideas of your research. You can include explanations for the different photos you have shared, and remember to include the credit for any images you may use. Some questions to consider as you prepare your captions:

  • Why is this person, event or topic historically significant?
  • What do you want Canadians to know about your topic?
  • What surprised you in your research?
  • What was your guiding research question?

Check out our Instagram account for examples from Heritage Fair alumni.

Step 3: Send us your work

Register for the Virtual Heritage Fair by completing the online registration form below. Don’t forget to attach your photos, caption, and the signed permission form.

The contest will be divided into three intake periods that have separate deadlines. Posts are due to Canada’s History no later than:

April 14, 2020 for projects to be posted between April 15 and April 19.
April 19, 2020 for projects to be posted between April 20 and April 26.
April 26, 2020 for projects to be posted between April 27 and May 3.
May 3, 2020 for projects to be posted between May 4 and May 8.

Step 4: Share your work

Starting on April 15, we will post submissions daily to our Instagram account @HeritageFairs_FĂȘtesPatrimoine.

You can share your project with friends and family and showcase your great work. Don’t forget to use the hashtags #virtualHeritageFair2020 and #fetesdupatrimoinevirtuelles2020.

Please take the time to view and comment on the other Heritage Fair projects from across the country.
