Establish and Maintain a Respectful Relationship

Most Canadians have minimal knowledge and understanding of the culture and history of the First Nations. Thus, to make the general public more aware of the history and culture of the people who have lived on the land since thousands of years ago, who are also Canadians, education is the key. In addition to conducting and promoting original, effective educational programs like the KAIROS blanket exercise, changes in schools’ curriculum can also engender students’ awareness of the Indigenous people’s history. Education in schools could be more inclusive of Indigneous people, thus acknowledging that the First Nations are a part of Canada’s history and culture.
