From East and West: Scots and Sikhs in Canada

Over the centuries there have been many immigrants to Canada of many different nationalities. Two immigrant groups with large impacts on Canadian communities were the Scots and Sikhs. Although Scottish and Sikh immigrants came from vastly different continents and cultures, similar underlying factors pushed them to emigrate. While the Scots were welcomed, prospered and continued to immigrate to Canada, the Sikhs were largely rejected and immigration quickly declined. Although the reception of immigrants from the two groups differed greatly, they both influenced Canadian society by their hard work and entrepreneurial skills.
