The Significance of Change

From being excluded to being welcomed, being despised to being acknowledged, the progress the Chinese-Canadians made from time to time is astonishing. Both obtainment of citizenship and parliamentary apology indicate that Canada has acknowledged their mistakes as well as the contributions Chinese-Canadians have made, continuing and improving the bond between China and Canada. This shaped me as a Chinese-Canadian who is grateful for our courageous ancestors and who wouldn’t have the life I have today if the government didn’t fix the potential discrimination. This is exactly the reason why we should appreciate the past as we can recognize the mistakes and eventually right the wrongs. History cannot be changed, but the future can be.
