Prior to 1962, Canada’s immigration policy was both discriminatory and exclusionary, especially to those who the government and the public viewed as “undesirables.” Acts such as the Chinese Immigration Act (1885), and the Continuous Journey Regulation (1908), were designed to limit non European immigration.
