The Suffering for Suffrage

Women’s suffrage was popular and successful in Manitoba, Alberta, and Saskatchewan in 1916 [...] because of Nellie McClung’s writings, World War I’s female involvement, and the National Council of Women of Canada. These factors made suffrage possible in these provinces, and later, in a few short years, nationwide. Nellie McClung’s influence as a writer was crucial to allowing women to see the importance of their lives in a different light. World War I brought women into workplaces for the first time, and made them feel important to society. Finally, the National Council of Women of Canada was an organization which brought women together to fight for the same cause, and published the “Women’s Century,” giving support to women across the nation.
