Speaking out for ourselves

Chinese immigrants in Canada were often treated unjustly in the 19th and 20th centuries. Yet, when the Chinese immigrant communities stood up for themselves, they were able to defend their interests. This essay will compare the 1878 Chinese protests in Victoria to the 1979 demonstrations against CTV program “Campus Giveaway”, validating the power of speaking up against injustice.
