War and Women

July 28, 1914 featured the beginning of what we know now as the deadliest conflicts in Canadian history, the First World War. In the years subsequent to 1914, the global community was torn apart through political manipulation, strategic military tactics and sophisticated weaponry. As destructive as it was, World War I undoubtedly paved the way for growth and innovation across the Earth. It resulted in countless political changes, social movements, revolutions and shifts in ideologies all across the world, even in Canada. Due to Canada’s status as a British dominion, Canadian troops found themselves on the frontline merely weeks after its Mother Country declared war on Germany. Their remarkable contribution on the frontline and immense sacrifice resulted in the country emerging as a force to be reckoned with in the eyes of the global community. This permitted Canada to climb the ladder of international power which can be demonstrated by its independent signature on the Peace Treaty. This astonishing occurrence in Canadian history was the beginning of a movement which would, slowly but surely, allow this flourishing country to get to where it is today.
