The Spirit of Reconciliation

“We owe the Aboriginal peoples a debt that is four centuries old. It is their turn to become full partners in developing an even greater Canada. And the reconciliation required may be less of a matter of legal texts than of attitudes of the heart.” In southern Ontario, the two most common tribes were the Ojibwe and Haudenosaunee. Unfortunately due to colonization, they have been pushed out of my community, Wellington County. These tribes have diverse cultures and an important history to share. In the spirit of reconciliation with Canada’s original people, we should teach, learn and talk about their culture and the mistakes Canada made as a country in an effort to fight present and future prejudice.
