Reconciliation with Chippewas of Georgina Island

The Indigenous people who live in my community in northern York Region, a municipality north of Toronto, Ontario, are the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nations. Their land is on Georgina Island in Lake Simcoe and on a portion of land along the shore. In the spirit of reconciliation some of the things that need to occur are making non-Indigenous Canadians aware of the historical injustices against indigenous people in Canada, encouraging efforts to increase the quality of life on reserves in Canada, and giving Indigenous children in Canada equal opportunities to achieve within the Canadian school systems.
