Canada In the Face of Responsibility

Canada has recently been struggling with the issues developed from the past decisions relating to the Canadian Indian Residential School System. The detrimental effects of the actions of past governments resulted in a large amount of people suffering with the damage it has caused them. The poor treatment throughout the residential schools is arguably the primary reason for the conflicts in the Aboriginal communities. The main question is if Canada should interfere with the cycle of poverty occurring, and how the government should go about it. Governments today should take responsibility for the actions of governments in the past not by monetary compensation, but rather through psychological and emotional healing. With the implementation of extensive healing, the victims can mend the damage, instead of concealing the issues with financial restitution.
