Sgt. George Barnes Miller enlisted at Kingston, Ontario, in March 1917, and served in the Royal Canadian Artillery. He arrived in France shortly after the battle of Vimy Ridge. Miller was honourably discharged in January 1919 to continue his veterinary studies. After graduation, he practiced in Manitoba, once pulling a bad tooth out of a tiger at the Winnipeg Zoo. Later, he joined the Federal Department of Agriculture, working on safe food storage and transportation, earning membership in the Order of the British Empire (MBE).
He was born on October 12, 1896 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba and he died on February 16, 1969, at the age of 72.
