Nicholson signed up in Edmonton at the age of 20.

Worlend Errol Nicholson, in London following his enlistment in April 1916. Nicholson signed up in Edmonton at the age of 20. At the time, he was working as a teacher in Bentley, Alberta. He served in France and returned in Canada in 1919. Following the war, he settled in Beiseker, Alberta, and in 1923 married his sweetheart, Marie.
