Charles Switzer

He was awarded the Military Medal in 1917 and a second bar in July 1919.


Charles Switzer enlisted on December 30, 1914 from Ottawa and served with the 8th Canadian Mounted Rifles. Prior to the war he served as a sergeant with the 5th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards for four years.

During his service in the First World War, he was wounded severely by shrapnel and eventually discharged in 1919 for being medically unfit for further service. He was awarded the Military Medal in 1917 and a second bar in July 1919. Switzer married Harriet Hitsman in February 1928. Unfortunately, he died of a ruptured appendix nine months later, in November. His wife gave birth to their daughter, Fay, two months later, in January 1919.
