Canada’s History: New sponsor for museums history award

Mar 29, 2012

A new sponsor has signed on in support of the Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Museums: History Alive! Ecclesiastical Insurance Ltd will work with the Canadian Museums Association to present the award, which became part of the Canada’s History Awards program in 2011.

The first History Alive! award was presented in December to the Montreal Science Centre. The organization won out over four other finalists for the exhibition Action Stations! Life at the Port of Montreal, 1939–1945

“History is a key component of our national culture and identity, and our museums play a crucial role in presenting and interpreting it in our communities,” said Deborah Morrison, the president and CEO of Canada’s History Society, which organizes Canada’s History Awards.

The sponsorship comes as Ecclesiastical Insurance — which specializes in serving non-profit organizations and associations, arts and culture organizations, and heritage properties, among other types of organization — marks 125 years of service.
