Project: New Photo Exhibit and Lesson Plans
Who are you?
The City of Greater Sudbury Heritage museum is made up of four locations in the community. With the assistance of over 4,000 volunteer hours, the full time staff offer a wide variety of exhibits and bilingual education programming.
Project Description:
Using a collection of documents and photographs depicting the front of the former Regent Theatre in Sudbury we will develop an exhibit and lesson plan based on the social history of the community and its reaction to world events from 1939 to 1958. The theatre posters and the front of the theatre tell a colourful story of Sudbury’s emergence from the depression through the Second World War.
Why do you need the funding?
The community is experiencing a prolonged economic downturn during the continued Vale Inco labour dispute. The museum needs to expand its relevance to the senior elementary school system and fundraising during this time has been challenging.
Why is this so important to your community?
The project will enable the average citizen to relive an exciting period in our community’s history, as well as give our students a window into their grandparents lives.
How can I help?
Individuals and companies wishing to assist this project may do so by sponsoring the printing exhibit guide books and the printing and mounting of images for the exhibit. Volunteers are also needed to assist photoshopping the images and to help with the development of lesson plans local schools.
