The Montreal Olympics:
An Insider’s View of Organizing a
Self-financing Games

Support Canada's History in other ways (more)

by Paul Charles Howell

McGill-Queen’s University Press, Montreal, 2009 $44.95

Paul Charles Howell provides a unique perspective on the 1976 Olympic Summer Games, recounting his experience as a core member of the organizing team responsible for the Olympic build in Montreal.

Athletic moments are mostly absent from the book, with sentiments of pride and emotion reserved for triumphs over timelines, budgets, and absurd political interruptions.

Howell’s principal goal is to set the record straight, paying tribute to the men and women who were so fiercely committed to making these Games about the development of sport and the needs of the athletes. It is an interesting case study in corporate planning and project management, providing the business-minded with some Olympic-sized examples of the value of strategy, communications, and business development.

Sounds like the ideal book for the pathologically organized.
