the development of the province’s brewing
industry.
Written by Bill Wright and Dave Craig,
self-proclaimed beer geeks, 300 Years of Beer
covers the earliest days of the brewing with
the crew of the HBC’s Nonsuch in 1670, the
survival of the brewing industry during the
temperance movement, the battle for corporate
brewing supremacy in the late twentieth
century, and many other events.
The authors note that, “in the days
before ‘truth in advertising,’ manufacturers
could make claims about the health-giving
properties of their beverages without regulation.”
They also mention the up and comers
of contemporary brewing in Manitoba.
