Jeunes Citoyens / Young Citizens

Bernz Winnipeg, Manitoba

Fair address: Red River Heritage Fair

Project: Winnipeg's Exchange District

My project is about Winnipeg's Exchange District National Historic Site

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting part was when I walked through and looked at the buildings. I'm grateful to the concerned people for their love of preservation of the buildings. It is truly our heritage and legacy

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

I learned the importance in the preservation of our history, historic sites, buildings, and artifacts. It gave me the image of yesterday's world which was rich and vast with history. It was marvelous as I saw history come alive, and reminded me of what the future will look like.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

I compared my life to the lives back then and found my life is more easier than theirs. Despite that they don't have the modern technology and transportation yet, they had brilliant ideas. They took the time and made their architectural designs as intricate and modern for their time.
