Project: The Battle of Quebec, a battle that shaped a nation.

My project is about the battle of Quebec 1759. It was an important battle during the seven-year war. It was a war between the British and the French at Quebec City, which only lasted less than an hour, but resulted in changes that shaped Canada into what it is today both culturally and politically.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting I learned about the topic was probably how short the Battle was and how it had a big impact on our history.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Following the battle the British allowed the French religious freedom in Quebec City, recognizing the Catholic Church and bringing back the French form of civil law. This was resented by the American colonies and partly helped bring about the American revolution. It also ensured that Canada remained loyal to the crown during the American Revolution.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

After Quebec surrendered the British allowed religious freedom and recognized the Catholic Church but made the citizens swear allegiance to the British King George II. We Canadians today still enjoy freedom of religion and as part of the commonwealth still swear alliance to the British monarchy. The first years under British rule was peaceful in Quebec City and we still enjoy this today in Canada.
