Project: Immigration in Canada

This project explores the immigration practices of the Canadian government over time, highlights important changes in practices, and identifies current elected officials responsible for immigration in Canada.  Various waves of immigration over time are also investigated.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting aspect of immigration is the changes in laws over time. Canada's immigration policies have evolved to be more inclusive and less discriminatory.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

Immigration has been and continues to builder of the mosaic that is our country from the first wave to the current wave of immigration. Other than First Nations peoples, everyone in Canada is an immigrant. Canada's immigration policies include safeguards to protect Canadians. Immigration has created a diverse society that is inclusive, respectful of the many cultures, that believes the dignity of every person and that guarantees basic human rights for all.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

As an immigrant myself, the experiences I have had with immigration in my lifespan are very different than people historically because of the changes in immigration policies and practices.
