Project: Conquest of the North Pole

My video is about who found the North Pole and also what the journey was like getting to the North Pole.

What was the most interesting thing you learned about your topic?

The most interesting thing that I learned was that we don't know exactly who found the North Pole because two people have claimed to.

What important lessons have you learned that you want to share with other Canadians?

One lesson that I learned is that people are always curious so even if we don't explore our own Arctic someone will for us.

How would you compare your life today to the lives of those studied in your project?

Well obviously now we can go the Arctic with no trouble at all whereas back then it was a deathly trek.

What was your favourite part of this video?: I loved how Brennan was able to make it look like an interview. I think it was kinda awesome how he even dressed up and played the part of Robert Perry.

What do you think this Young Citizen did really well?: I think the best part of this video was how he included his own opinion about what happened while including true facts about how it happened. I really liked how he tried to add a little humour so it wasn't like some boring news report, but was able to make it interesting, in a captivating way. It was easy to understand in kind of like a 'kid view' so no one would get lost when he was trying to explain his topic with big words that would be hard to understand. I also really liked how he included a similar scenario in the Modern World. Finding the Arctic then, and reaching Mars now.

What did you learn from the video?: I learned that there were actually two people who 'claimed' to have found the Arctic North, and neither was Columbus. I didn't realize, that it wasn't until after Columbus discovered North America that the Arctic found. I thought, that along with Columbus' expedition he discovered the North, so the fact that it wasn't just one person, I thought it shows that just becasue you discovered land, doesn't mean you found it all.

Any other comments you’d like to share with this Young Citizen?: I think you did very well. You made it interesting and easy to understand which I thought was awesome. You added some humour to it which really, made me smile. :-) All the same, I think you did really well on 'The News'. Good luck!

Trevor from Manitoba says:

What was your favourite part of this video?: I really enjoyed how he used himself in the interview, I mean it is hard with one person to do a good video and he did a great job of that.

What do you think this Young Citizen did really well?: He did a great job of his speech and pace. He was very clear and easy to understand.

What did you learn from the video?: I learned about the north pole and who actually found it. I had no idea that they found the north pole so far back with the low grade tools they had back then.

Any other comments you’d like to share with this Young Citizen?: Great job, great video and I hope you do well!
