Canada’s Comic Book Heroes

Canucks On Guard

A great collection for kids is True Patriot, an all-Canadian collection of superheroes such as the Red Ensign, Raven Girl, Dominion Jack and more. The first edition pretty much sold out, so the creators are working on a second book.

Watch for reprints of the adventures of Nelvana of the Northern Lights coming soon. Two Canadians (who are also involved in a documentary about Canadian comic book superheroes and their creators called Lost Heroes: The Movie) have permission to reprint the 31 Nelvana stories, which first appeared in the 1940s.

You can also put Superman on a letter . . . sort of. Canada Post is putting out stamps to mark the Man of Steel’s 75th anniversary. (He first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938.)

And the Royal Canadian Mint has a very cool series of seven different Superman coins. They’re for collectors, though — you won’t see any of them in the change you get at the store.
