Edward Vernon Callow

Callow, a shoemaker from Brampton, Ontario, enlisted on November 24, 1915, at the age of 19.

Callow, a shoemaker from Brampton, Ontario, enlisted on November 24, 1915, at the age of 19. He served in England and France. On May 25, 1918, Callow was hit by shrapnel in the left knee near Arras, France. Hospitalized for almost four months, Callow was eventually sent home to Canada, and on January 11, 1919, was discharged for being “medically unfit” for service. Following the war, he opened a shoe and leather shop in Allison, Ontario. In WWII, he acted as a leather inspector for the military, travelling to leather manufacturing plants across Canada. Callow died in 1960 at the age of 64.
