Clair Addison Clendening

He golfed, hunted, and fished, and was at one time the president of the Manitoba Fish and Game Association.


In 1916, Clair Addison Clendening enlisted with the 222nd Battalion and served as a gas officer in the Battle of Arras. He was mentioned in the despatches but his family does not know what for. He ended his service as a captain in 1919.

Born in Walkerton, Ontario he graduated from the University of Toronto in 1907 and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1910 where he worked for Winnipeg Hydro during the construction of a plant at Pointe du Bois. Throughout his life he was also president of the National Utilities Corporation, former commissioner of the Manitoba hydro system, and vice-president of the Winnipeg Heating.

During the Second World War he received the Order of the British Empire for helping the returning soldiers find employment in Winnipeg as chairman of the re-established credit advisory committee.

He golfed, hunted, and fished, and was at one time the president of the Manitoba Fish and Game Association.

He and his wife, Christine, had two kids—Jane and Ann.
