Timothy and Thomas Lowry

With so many men not returning, Tina Lowry counted her blessings when her husband Timothy came home from the Great War alive.

Thomas Lowry enlisted in Calgary on February 12, 1916, joining the 137th Battalion. His brother Timothy also served in the Great War. Tom survived the war. He was a life-long bachelor and died at the age of 70.

With so many men not returning, Tina Lowry counted her blessings when her husband Timothy came home from the Great War alive.

But when cancer claimed his life a mere 10 years later—at just 41 years of age—she blamed his disease on his being gassed during the war. Tina sent Joyce to live with her great grandmother, her other daughter, Florence, to live with a cousin.

Timothy enlisted in Winnipeg with the 27th (City of Winnipeg) Battalion. He died in 1928.
