Frank W. Ellis

In Vancouver, Frank W.Ellis made artificial limbs for veterans who lost limbs during the Great War.

Trained as a machinist, Frank W.Ellis enlisted in November 1914 and served in Belgium with the 18th Battalion. Discharged from the military on compassionate grounds in 1916 after the death of his father, he returned to Callandar, Ontario, to run the family farm before eventually moving to Vancouver. There, he made artificial limbs for veterans who lost limbs during the Great War. Ellis always regretted leaving his comrades behind at the Front, which may have factored into his volunteering for service during the Second World War.
