John (Jack) Mitchell

The piece of metal which Jack used as a mirror, stopped a bullet that was destined for his heart.


John (Jack) Mitchell was one of three brothers to serve in the Great War. The Hamilton, Ontario, native enlisted on June 8, 1916, and served in France. His life was saved during one occasion by a piece of shiny metal that he carried in his breast pocket . The piece of metal which Jack used as a mirror, stopped a bullet that was destined for his heart. Following the war, Jack worked as a salesman for a paper company in Hamilton.
